About

I enjoy good conversation and a good beer or two... "Beer is far more than a drink, it is a token that a man can move his limbs and stretch in safety."
- Erich Remarque

Whenever I saw these ads, I wondered, “what the hell are they thinking?” Are you an army of one because all your comrades were killed? Did they desert? Did they hold a war and no one else came? I’m not sure the Army even knew what message they were sending.

Apparently they were trying to appeal to individualism, but I don’t think it worked. Recruiting numbers are in the toilet (except for recent increases due to large signing bonuses), so the Army changed their slogan to Army Strong. No sure what that means either. Maybe more team spirit or something - guess it’s stronger than an army of one.

[Edit: I left out possibly the most obvious (and improbable) interpretation of 'An Army of One,' which would be that of a group-minded Borg.  I don't see how that would appeal to anyone.]
